California Secretary of State

A recent internal audit at the California Secretary of State's office has concluded that the state has been incorrectly applying statutory fees to certified document requests. As a result, the state will be changing the way they charge for certified copies beginning August 1, 2017.

Currently, the state charges a flat rate $5.00 statutory fee for a certified document request, plus copy costs of $1.00 for the first page and $0.50 for each additional page.

Effective August 1, 2017, the $5.00 statutory fee will be applied for each filed document requested, plus copy costs as noted above.

For example, a request for a certified copy of Articles of Incorporation and three Amendments will generate four separate $5.00 statutory fees for a total of $20.00, with the per page rate for copies billed in addition.
