Shutdown

The current U.S. federal government shutdown may create unexpected delays in your business formation and maintenance activities. Many federal agencies are operating with limited staff and are experiencing delays or suspensions of certain services.

Current impacts include:

  • U.S. Copyright Office - Closed
Website updates, inquiry responses, and transaction processing are paused. You may still submit registrations and recordings to secure your official date of receipt; processing will resume once the office reopens.

  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS) - Limited Staffing
Online Employer Identification Number (EIN) applications remain the most reliable option. Expect slower turnaround on faxed requests and reduced responsiveness, particularly when phone follow-up is required

The D.C. Department of State - Office of Authentications and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office are open and appear to be fully operational at this time.

CLAS will continue to monitor agency operations throughout the shutdown and provide updates on any changes that could affect your filings or business transactions. We encourage clients to plan ahead for potential delays and reach out to our team with any questions or time-sensitive requests. 800.952.5696 | connect@clasinfo.com
